Carolyn Fielder  Wins Red Bird Quilt

Something seemed to be "rotten in Denmark," as goes the old Shakesperian saying about suspicious circumstances.  

For several months, the Price Seniors Center has been selling tickets for a raffle to win a quilt named "Red Bird" -- a very special quilt, previously won by Price Special Events Director, Marie Jager, who had  now donated it to the Price Center in an effort to raise some needed cash for its on-going renovations.  Raffle ticket sales had abounded.  The drawing box overflowed.

Singer Ferebee plans her return to San Marcos

San Marcos Singer Kelly Ferebee has quite a long history with Ron and Marie Jager.

She taught their daughter as choir director at Goodnight Junior High years ago. And then she played the lead role in “The Boy Friend,” which Marie directed, and came away impressing not just the Jagers, but a string of standing-room-only audiences.

And now, 30 years later, she’s coming back.

It’s this relationship that led to Ferebee’s return performance in San Marcos Nov. 29 at — where else — the Price Seniors Center, which the Jagers currently operate.

Funds needed for Price Senior Center continuing renovation

From the outside, the Price Senior Center looks like an old church, but on the inside it is so much more.

Nearly ten years and $500,000 worth of remodeling and renovation has transformed the once-rundown First Christian Church into an active community. The center is used for weddings, performances, luncheons, and any type of class you can imagine, from quilting to yoga.

There is still more work to be done, and unfortunately, no funds to pay for it. Although the lower level is currently being utilized, the entire second floor is in need of renovation.

Price Center Wins State Award in 2004

AUSTIN, TEXAS --   The H.Y Price Senior Center in downtown San Marcos has been named the Best Downtown Adaptive Reuse Project in the State of Texas.

The award was presented by the Austin-based Texas Downtown Association at its Annual Conference in Bryan/College Station. The TDA Awards program celebrates the best projects, people and places in Texas downtowns and has been held for more than a decade in conjunction with the Annual Conference co-sponsored by TDA and the Texas Main Street Program.

The City of San Marcos/Main Street Program nominated the project.
